This garden sits behind a beautiful Victorian terraced house, characteristic of London's enduring residential architecture. Working within a constrained footprint, the ambition was to create a garden that feels generous, adaptable and connected to the rhythms of everyday life. A sculptural L-shaped formed concrete bench anchors the main terrace, defining a flexible social space for dining and gathering. Beyond, a gently curving path draws visitors through layered planting to a lounge area enveloped by evergreen structure and softened with drifts of seasonal perennials. This carefully choreographed journey creates a sense of anticipation and discovery, allowing the garden to reveal itself gradually while fostering a feeling of retreat from the surrounding city. Two carefully selected multi-stem trees lend the garden a graceful architectural framework. Chosen for their climate resilience, elegant foliage and light, open canopies, they introduce seasonal interest while providing scale, dappled shade and a sense of maturity to the garden without overwhelming the compact space.
